ETH Volatility Analysis for CPI, 14th January 2020

The data released by Bureau of Labor Statistics for Consumer Price Index on 14th January, 2020 has come in at a decrease to -0.1% for December 2019. Compared to the previous release for November 2019 at -0.1%, we can see that prices & inflation is decreasing at the same rate month over month.

To see the impact and volatility of ETH's price during the CPI release, we will first observe the difference in volume and price changes on the 4-hours chart, followed by the 15-minutes chart. Change in prices will be be determined by the high and low prices instead of the opening and closing prices.

4-Hours Chart Analysis

In the period prior to the release, the trading volume was 131,061 ETH with prices swinging between 149.38 and 153.33, representing a swing of 2.58%. Subsequently, the trading volume increased significantly by 148% to 324,813 ETH. Price action ranged from a low of 152.01 to a high of 162.50, a significant difference of 6.46%

15-Minutes Chart Analysis

Analysing on a lower time frame to get a more accurate picture, 6,466 ETH in trading volume was observed prior to the data release. Prices ranged between a low of 151.68 to a high of 152.50, a 0.54% change. Immediately following, trading volume decreased by 9% to 5,874 ETH. At this time, Ethereum hit a low of 152.01 with a high of 152.59, a change of 0.38%.
