ETH Volatility Analysis for CPI, 13th February 2020

The data released by Bureau of Labor Statistics for Consumer Price Index on 13th February, 2020 has come in at an increase to 0.4% for January 2020. Compared to the previous release for December 2019 at -0.1%, we can see that prices & inflation is increasing month over month.

To see the impact and volatility of ETH's price during the CPI release, we will first observe the difference in volume and price changes on the 4-hours chart, followed by the 15-minutes chart. Change in prices will be be determined by the high and low prices instead of the opening and closing prices.

4-Hours Chart Analysis

In the period prior to the release, the trading volume was 206,908 ETH with prices swinging between 259.12 and 272.82, representing a swing of 5.02%. Subsequently, the trading volume increased by 43% to 295,736 ETH. Price action ranged from a low of 262.28 to a high of 277.69, a difference of 5.55%

15-Minutes Chart Analysis

Analysing on a lower time frame to get a more accurate picture, 19,163 ETH in trading volume was observed prior to the data release. Prices ranged between a low of 268.65 to a high of 272.82, a 1.53% change. Immediately following, trading volume increased significantly by 163% to 50,421 ETH. At this time, Ethereum hit a low of 272.08 with a high of 277.69, a change of 2.02%.
