ETH Volatility Analysis for Fed Interest Rate, 1st February 2023

On 1st February, 2023, the Federal Open Market Committee has decided to increase the interest rate by 50 basis points for a target interest rate at 4.25-4.50%.

To see the impact and volatility of ETH's price during the Fed Interest Rate release, we will first observe the difference in volume and price changes on the 4-hours chart, followed by the 15-minutes chart. Change in prices will be be determined by the high and low prices instead of the opening and closing prices.

4-Hours Chart Analysis

In the period prior to the release, the trading volume was 66,101 ETH with prices swinging between 1,566.92 and 1,586.56, representing a swing of 1.24%. Subsequently, the trading volume increased significantly by 229% to 217,783 ETH. Price action ranged from a low of 1,555.18 to a high of 1,647.77, a significant difference of 5.62%

15-Minutes Chart Analysis

Analysing on a lower time frame to get a more accurate picture, 8,377 ETH in trading volume was observed prior to the data release. Prices ranged between a low of 1,575.15 to a high of 1,586.56, a 0.72% change. Immediately following, trading volume increased significantly by 237% to 28,271 ETH. At this time, Ethereum hit a low of 1,565.50 with a high of 1,589.57, a significant change of 1.51%.

The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) has eight regularly scheduled meetings each year, but they can meet more often if the need should arise.
