On 18th December, 2024, the Federal Open Market Committee has decided to decrease the interest rate by 25 basis points for a target interest rate at 4.50-4.75%.

To see the impact and volatility of BTC's price during the Fed Interest Rate release, we will first observe the difference in volume and price changes on the 4-hours chart, followed by the 15-minutes chart. Change in prices will be be determined by the high and low prices instead of the opening and closing prices.

4-Hours Chart Analysis

In the period prior to the release, the trading volume was 6,460 BTC with prices swinging between 103,380.43 and 104,999.98, representing a swing of 1.54%. Subsequently, the trading volume increased significantly by 209% to 19,985 BTC. Price action ranged from a low of 100,303.72 to a high of 104,805.44, a significant difference of 4.30%

15-Minutes Chart Analysis

Analysing on a lower time frame to get a more accurate picture, 369 BTC in trading volume was observed prior to the data release. Prices ranged between a low of 104,150.01 to a high of 104,920.47, a 0.73% change. Immediately following, trading volume increased significantly by 306% to 1,497 BTC. At this time, Bitcoin hit a low of 103,438.27 with a high of 104,805.44, a significant change of 1.30%.
