ETH Volatility Analysis for Fed Interest Rate, 15th March 2020

On 15th March, 2020, the Federal Open Market Committee has decided to decrease the interest rate by 50 basis points for a target interest rate at 1.00-1.25%.

To see the impact and volatility of ETH's price during the Fed Interest Rate release, we will first observe the difference in volume and price changes on the 4-hours chart, followed by the 15-minutes chart. Change in prices will be be determined by the high and low prices instead of the opening and closing prices.

4-Hours Chart Analysis

In the period prior to the release, the trading volume was 133,203 ETH with prices swinging between 120.16 and 125.05, representing a swing of 3.91%. Subsequently, the trading volume increased significantly by 297% to 529,338 ETH. Price action ranged from a low of 120.31 to a high of 133.50, a significant difference of 9.88%

15-Minutes Chart Analysis

Analysing on a lower time frame to get a more accurate picture, 18,567 ETH in trading volume was observed prior to the data release. Prices ranged between a low of 120.16 to a high of 122.14, a 1.62% change. Immediately following, trading volume increased considerably by 68% to 31,126 ETH. At this time, Ethereum hit a low of 120.39 with a high of 124.90, a significant change of 3.61%.

The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) has eight regularly scheduled meetings each year, but they can meet more often if the need should arise.
