On 18th September, 2019, the Federal Open Market Committee has decided to decrease the interest rate by 25 basis points for a target interest rate at 2.00-2.25%.

To see the impact and volatility of ETH's price during the Fed Interest Rate release, we will first observe the difference in volume and price changes on the 4-hours chart, followed by the 15-minutes chart. Change in prices will be be determined by the high and low prices instead of the opening and closing prices.

4-Hours Chart Analysis

In the period prior to the release, the trading volume was 88,454 ETH with prices swinging between 210.50 and 214.83, representing a swing of 2.02%. Subsequently, the trading volume decreased by 47% to 46,858 ETH. Price action ranged from a low of 210.19 to a high of 214.14, a difference of 1.84%

15-Minutes Chart Analysis

Analysing on a lower time frame to get a more accurate picture, 1,855 ETH in trading volume was observed prior to the data release. Prices ranged between a low of 213.04 to a high of 213.63, a 0.28% change. Immediately following, trading volume increased considerably by 81% to 3,363 ETH. At this time, Ethereum hit a low of 212.86 with a high of 214.14, a significant change of 0.60%.

The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) has eight regularly scheduled meetings each year, but they can meet more often if the need should arise.
