On 18th December, 2024, the Federal Open Market Committee has decided to decrease the interest rate by 25 basis points for a target interest rate at 4.50-4.75%.

To see the impact and volatility of ETH's price during the Fed Interest Rate release, we will first observe the difference in volume and price changes on the 4-hours chart, followed by the 15-minutes chart. Change in prices will be be determined by the high and low prices instead of the opening and closing prices.

4-Hours Chart Analysis

In the period prior to the release, the trading volume was 71,397 ETH with prices swinging between 3,825.00 and 3,902.51, representing a swing of 1.99%. Subsequently, the trading volume increased significantly by 375% to 339,162 ETH. Price action ranged from a low of 3,650.00 to a high of 3,907.19, a significant difference of 6.58%

15-Minutes Chart Analysis

Analysing on a lower time frame to get a more accurate picture, 4,155 ETH in trading volume was observed prior to the data release. Prices ranged between a low of 3,867.79 to a high of 3,902.51, a 0.89% change. Immediately following, trading volume increased significantly by 445% to 22,625 ETH. At this time, Ethereum hit a low of 3,837.60 with a high of 3,907.19, a significant change of 1.78%.
